After witnessing tense quarter-finals battle yesterday, the second quarter-finals fixture of the ongoing Pi Niangzen Trophy 2019 tomorrow will showcase two teams bidding for first ever semi-final appearance in high-profile tournament when heavyweights FC Zotal takes on Headquarters Athletic Union at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.
Having finished group-stage campaign with 100 percent win record, Group C winners FC Zotal will be heading into tomorrow’s clash with confident mood but having seen improved performance game after game, Headquarters Athletic Union will also be looking to plunge FC Zotal into elimination when the two sides go head-to-head in a bid to set up semi-final clash with Konsham FC.
FC Zotal opened their campaign with a moral-boosting 1-0 victory over District Super League outfit Koite Youth Union, which was followed by a 3-1 win over of former Manipur State League outfit Zomi FC and in their last group game, they thrashed Lamka FC 5-1. In contrast, Headquarters Athletic Union opened their campaign with a moral-daunting 5-0 lost to United Khawzim Brothers but a 2-2 draw against Khallai FC earned them hopes of getting through to the quarter-finals and in their last group game, they overcame YC Pearsonmun 3-2 to earn a place into the Last-8. So, taking into accounts the improved performances both sides have with the progress of the tournament, it is inevitable the match will be a well-balanced contest. However, considering the opponents they faced in earlier matches, the quality of players they have and the results both sides earned during group-stage, FC Zotal gained slight advantage over their Headquarters counterparts to go through to the semi-finals but looking at the way how Headquarters Athletic Union gained momentum to move past group-stage, they cannot be ruled out to show star-studded FC Zotal the exit door.
