Rs. 25.32 lakh deposited to claim pending rice
IMPHAL, 11th Jul: In response to the insistence by the transport contractor L Hemanta to collect rice allocation after making payment, FPS agents and Khurai MLA L Susindro deposited Rs 25,32,285 to claim the pending five months’ rice quota of the assembly segment.
A meeting was held regarding the issue at Khurai Ningthoubung community hall on Thursday was attended by agents of Fair Price Shops and NFSA beneficiaries of the AC. After the meeting, a rally participated by large number of people including Susindro himself was taken out till the office of District Supply Officer (DSO), Imphal East, Porompat DC Complex to deposit the cash.
The rally was blocked by police personnel when it neared Porompat Police Station and allowed only the MLA and 27 FPS agents to proceed to the DSO office. Owing to congregation of large number people on the side of the road vehicular movement got affected as only one side of the Porompat DC road was allowed for traffic from 1.30 pm to 4.30pm.
The amount of Rs 23,32,285 was handed over to CAF&PD Imphal East, civil service inspector H Bhupendra and DSO A Gopendra by Susindro and FPS agents of Khurai AC as the contractor was unavailable. The MLA urged the officials to provide the rice allocation for the pending 5 months by Friday, to which the officials gave assurance of doing the needful.
MLA L Susindro, after making the deposit, told news reporters as payment for the pending supply of rice has been made the contractor should not fail to ensure release of the held up rice by Friday.
The MLA cautioned that if the supply is not made available by Friday, then the civil supply inspector of DSO should be held responsible for any eventualities.
