Guwahati: Noted Assamese  educationist   Minoti
Borthakur, who defeated cancer to live for social works, was conferred
Veerangana Sati Sadhani   Award  2020 recently in a program held
at Dhakuakhana in eastern part of the State. State chief minister
Sarbananda Sonowal presented the award honouring the brave lady who
won the 27 years long battle against the deadly disease.
Highlighting the State government’s decision to constitute Sati
Sadhani award and also set up an university at Golaghat in memorial
tributes to the valour & bravery of Sati Sadhani, Sonowal stressed
on   the   need   for   the   younger generation   to   build   their
personalities through academics and educational pursuits. He also
announced an amount  of Rs  10 lakh for erecting a statue  of Sati
Sadhani at Dhakuakhana.
Mentionable is that the last queen of Chutia dynasty, Sati Sadhani
played a prominent role in the fight against the invaders in around
1524 and finally sacrificed her life by jumping from the top of
Chandragiri hills near Sadiya in  eastern Assam.  Soon after her
marriage to a relatively weak king Nityapal, Sati Sadhani had to face
hardships in different spheres but she did not surrender and went on
facing the challenges.
Sonowal also called everyone to realise the tremendous willpower and
mental strength shown by Ms Borthakur   in   her fight   against
cancer saying ‘her   example   should be   emulated   by everyone in
overcoming challenges in life through willpower’. Responding the
goodwill, Ms Borthakur shared her struggling experiences and endeavour
to educate the cancer patients about ways to deal with their trauma
and sufferings.
Mentioning Prime  Minister  Narendra   Modi’s motto  of ‘sabka   sath,
sabka vikash,  sabka viswas’, Sonowal laid emphasis on equal
development to all sections. He reminded that soon after coming to
power in 2016, the BJP led government  in Dispur held meetings with 70
communities from all corners of Assam to prepare a roadmap for  their
equal  development and  steps were taken to  preserve the   culture,
language, literature of all communities, irrespective of their
population.
In presence of State cultural affairs minister Naba Kumar Doley,
agriculture minister Atul Bora, Parliamentarian Pradan Barua,
Legislator  Ranoj   Pegu with other dignitaries, Sonowal  called upon
the youths to take up education, sports and cultural activities with
true spirits and examples set by many great Assamese personalities
like Sati Sadhani who had shown an act of unbelievable bravery.
